ZAMFARA TARGETS OVER 1 M CHILDREN FOR IMMUNIZATION CAMPAIGN
The Zamfara Government says it has targeted over 1 million children for Integrated Immunization Campaign scheduled
to hold between 27th Oct. to 3rd Nov. 2022.
The State Deputy Gov, Sen Hassan Muhammad Nasiha disclosed this in Gusau at the state Taskforce Committee on Immunization meeting.
Nasiha who is the Chairman of the state Taskforce added that the vaccination exercise aimed at reaching all the targeted children.
The meeting was attended by the representatives of partners such as UNICEF, World Health Organization (WHO), Center for Diseases Control (CDC) Cigari Foundation and Salina and other stakeholders to primary healthcare.

Nasiha who is the Chairman of the state Taskforce on Immunization said a total of 795,556 children aged between Five to Nine months for measles vaccination and 327,587 children aged Ten to 11 years for A Miningitis vaccines.
He called on the general public in the state to disregard rumours that immunizations has negative effect on fertility.
According to him, integrated activity to be conducted included Measles and Meningitis vaccination, Vitamin A supplementation campaign, birth registration certification and Covid 19 vaccination exercise.

He said the exercise to be implemented in two phases.
“Phase 1 to cover 10 Local Government Areas of Bungudu, B/Magaji, Gusau, Zurmi, Kaura Namoda, Shinkafi, Talata Mafara, Maru, Tsafe and Maradun.
“While the phase 2 cover 4 LGAs of Gummi, Bukkuyum, Bakura and Anka respectively.
“Equally, 16,440 eligible population are expected to be vaccinated against COVID-19 during the exercise and total of 1,092 teams are to be used in the exercise”, Dep Gov added.
He noted that the state government has already released it’s counterpart funding for the exercise.
“I am appealing to traditional rulers, political, religious and community leaders as well as parents and individuals to use this great opportunity and ensure all their wards are properly vaccinated.
Nasiha thanked partners and other members of the taskforce for supporting the state in health care delivery.
He assured that the state government’s determination to continue providing enabling environment for them to operate optimally.
In his remarks, the Executive Secretary State Primary Health Care Board Dr. Tukur Isma’il commended the commitments of the state government, development partners as well as other stakeholders for supporting primary health care services in the state.

“Taskforce headed by the Deputy Gov is the highest policy making body on Immunizations and allied health services in the state.
“I must appreciate the good responses and contributions by other members of the committee and other stakeholders to this exercise”, Executives Secretary added.
In their separate contributions at the meeting, representatives of the partners assured their continued support in the areas of enlightenment and sensitization, provision of technical support, reaching hard to reach and security compromise communities, community engagement and provision of logistic supports.
