’17 ISWAP fighters drowned’ crossing river in Yobe

At least 17 fighters of the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP) have drowned while trying to cross a river along the border between Nigeria and the Niger Republic.

Zagazola Makama, a counter-insurgency publication focused on the Lake Chad region, noted that the river is between Kafetoa and Bulabulin Gaidam communities in Yobe state.

The insurgents were reportedly attempting to reach Tam village in the Niger Republic, near the Kannamma settlement in Yobe when they drowned.

The publication quoted intelligence sources as saying that the terrorists were swept away by strong water currents.

Makama reports that the terrorists had been displaced from some of their bases, including Bulabulin Geidam, Chettimari, and Diffan along the Nigeria-Niger borders.
