2021 Children’s Day: VAI organizes sports competition for adolescents in Zamfara
The Voluntary Aid Initiative (VAI) a Zamfara based CSO has organised sports competition among adolescents groups in Kaura Namoda Local Government Area of the state as part of the activities to celebrate 2021 Children’s Day.
The Executive Director of the CSO, Malam Musa Umar disclosed this while speaking to newsmen in Sarkin-mafara, Sarkin-baura ward in Kaura Namoda LGA on Tuesday at the ongoing activities of the 2021 Children’s Day.
The VAI is implementing Reaching and Empowering Adolescents to make inform Choice for their Health (REACH), a Global Affairs Canada (GAC) funded project through Save the Children International (SCI) an NGO.
REACH is a three year project funded by Global Affairs Canada (GAC) implemented by the SCI in three Northern Nigerian states.

The project targets100,000 adolescents boys and girls between the age of 10 to 19 in Zamfara, Gombe and Katsina States.
In Zamfara the two LGAs of Talata-Mafara and Kaura Namoda were selected for the project in the state.
Umar said the goal of the 2021 children’s day is to improve child welfare world wide, promote and celebrate children’s rights and promote togetherness and awareness amongst all children.
“We organised sports competition among adolescents groups in Kaura Namoda LGA is to encourage the sporting activities among the adolescents groups aimed at enhancing loves, togetherness and physically fitness among children..
“We also conducted sensitisation meeting with religious leaders at ward leves to seek their support in creating of awareness among parents and guardians through preachings and sermons sessions.
“This is in addition to quiz competition to increase children’s knowledge and encourage them to participate in education activities as well as increasing their knowledge on activities of REACH project.
“Our next programme is community walk to raise awareness on parents support for brighter future of their children”, Umar explained.
