2023: Group urges Kebbi Governor to Institutionalize power rotation
A group, Kebbi Movement for Cry of Justice, has urged the state Governor, Alhaji Abubakar Atiku Bagudu, to facilitate the institutionalization of power rotation among the three political zones in the state.
Alhaji Abdullahi Muhammad Lamba, the spokesman for the group, gave the advice in Birnin Kebbi on Thursday.
He said that the people from Kebbi Centre Senatorial District had been ruling the state since 1999 till date.
“It is high time the governorship position be shifted to Kebbi North or South Senatorial district in 2023.

“We are calling on our governor to come forward and shoulder this responsibility, and make it a state policy of power rotation.
“If he does this, the people of the state will never forget him for enshrining and ensuring equity in the sharing political positions in the state.
“As a good friend of our governor, who wants good things for him and wants him to succeed, I strongly advise our governor to institutionalize power rotation in the state.
“The power should shift from Kebbi Centre either Kebbi North or South that have never had the opportunity to produce a governor from them.
“We are not saying the power will remain in one particular senatorial district, it should be rotational just like what is happening in Sokoto and Niger states,” Muhammad Lamba said.
According to him, Sokoto and Niger States have been practicing power rotation since 1999 to date and the issue is not new in Nigerian politics.
He explained that the power rotation had been in practice in the country for ages, saying the rotation was made expedient owing the existence of six geo-polotical zones in the country.
“We are also a living witness to how Chief Olusegun Obasanjo became President of Nigeria from the South- West region in 1999 and he ruled Nigeria for eight years.
“After that, he handed over to late Alhaji Musa Umar Yar’adua of the blessed memory from the Northern region.
“But unfortunately, his life was cut short and passed away; there and then Dr. Goodluck Jonathan took over who is from South -South geo- political zone of the country.
“This shifting of the presidency to different zones of the country will show you what we are calling for.
“Power rotation, is not a new thing in Nigeria system.
“We also have similar case in Niger state, as late Abubakar Kure of blessed memory was the governor from 1999 to 2007 from zone ‘A’.
“And Babagida Aliyu took over from zone ‘B’ and he also served for eight years.
“Today, zone ‘C’ is in control under able leadership of Abubakar Sani Bello.
“Our target is to ensure power rotation is respected in the state as we are not targeting anybody, we are not witch- hunting anybody,”Lamba said.
The spokesman urged youths, elected and political leaders to use their position to promote equity and justice in the state.
