2027: Nine Ogun transport unions endorse Sen. Adeola for governor

Nine transport unions in Ogun have endorsed the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Sen. Solomon Adeola, popularly known as Yayi, for the 2027 election.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the unions, under the aegis of ”Transport Unions Alliance for Yayi”, announced their endorsement at a rally held on Thursday at the Ake Palace Pavilion in Abeokuta.

The unions included Road Transport Employers Association Of Nigeria (RTEAN), National Union of Road Transport Workers (NURTW) and Ogun State Park Management Services (OGSPAM).

Others are Amalgamated Commercial Motorcycle, Tricycle Repairers, Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (ACOMORAN), Articulate Motorcycle Owners and Riders Association of Nigeria (AMORAN) among others.

Mr Tiwalade Akingbade, Chairman of the Planning Committee and State Secretary of RTEAN, described the endorsement as historical.

Akingbade explained that it was the first time the unions were coming forward to endorse a governorship candidate, adding that they backed Adeola based on his antecedents and capacity, rather than ethnic or sectional considerations.

The RTEAN secretary said the unions were convinced Adeola could sustain the development of the state, adding that all nine union chairmen had signed the endorsement card.

Responding, Adeola promised to consolidate on the achievements of the present administration and take Ogun to greater heights if elected governor.

“I can tell you that the people of Ogun State are about to witness the biggest development in the history of this state.

“I want to thank you for the endorsement. Your support is an indication and your desire for continuity in the state,” he said.

Also speaking, Gov. Dapo Abiodun described the endorsement as “truly unprecedented and historic”, saying the unity among the unions demonstrated stability and continuity in Ogun.

Abiodun said the development would promote socio-economic growth and boost investors’ confidence in the state.

Earlier, Alhaji Shamsideen Apelogun, National President, ACOMORAN, said transport operators were major stakeholders with the numerical strength to influence political choices.

Apelogun urged members to assess the records and antecedents of political candidates before deciding who to support, rather than allowing unions to become instruments of division.
