INSTITUTE DECRIES LOW PUBLIC AWARENESS ON ESTATE SURVEYING AND VALUATION
Lack of awareness remained the main challenge of the Estate Surveying and Valuation Profession, the Nigerian Institution of Estate Surveyors and Valuers (NIESV) has said.
Chief Ishaya Idi, a Member Board of Trustees of the NIESV stated this in Gusau at the Maiden Mandatory Continuing Professional Development Program (MCPD) for Zamfara, Sokoto and Kebbi states.
The theme of the event is “Ethical Standard in the Public and Private Practice of Estate Surveying and Valuation Profession”.
Idi who was represented by the Chairman of the occasion, was represented by the former Chairman Kaduna State Branch of NIESV, ESV Babatunde Salawu described the topic of the event as timely.
“We are talking about ethical standard as it affects estate surveying and valuation profession in public and private sectors.
“Awareness is the main challenge, many people are not aware of the differences of estate surveyor and values if compared to who is quantity surveyors.

“We want increase the knowledge of members of the general public on our focus,,”, Idi said.
“The topic is going to enlighten our members and create awareness among members of the public about the essence of ethical standard in our professional practice.
“This event is going to increase our members knowledge on standard, our expectations is to build confidence in our members general public so that our practice will be patronized.
“The issue of ethical standard in necessary in order discourage corruption in the professional practice”, he explained.
Also Speaking, the Coordinator Women Wing of the Estate Surveyors and Values Maryam Manga said the event is a welcome development.
“Because the role of estate surveyors is not known by the general public, so that we should not allow quacks to take over our profession.
“As a female in this profession has been a great one, I worked in this profession for 35 years, were I rose from Estate officer up to the level to registrar.
“I called on women to rise up and ensure dedication to participate fully in the profession”, Manga explained.
Earlier, in a welcome address, the Chairman NIESV, Sokoto, Kebbi and Zamfara, Dr Sani Habibu, described the maiden event in the state as a welcome development.
“This is a welcome development as you can see our members have come en-mass to attend the maiden activities of the MCPG.“We are happy today,we have conceived in the last years is becoming as a reality.
“This is clear that most of the populace are not aware of the extent and diversity of the professional”, he explained.
During the event there were various presentations by various resource persons under the sub themes of the theme of the event.
