Ahead 2027 Polls: NSCDC urges neutrality in Yobe
The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Yobe, Owuna Hassan, has warned officers against partisanship as political activities intensify ahead of 2027 elections.
Hassan gave the directive on Monday during his maiden strategic meeting with Divisional Officers and Area Commanders at the State Command Headquarters in Damaturu.
He said the meeting was organised to strengthen operational readiness, improve supervision and safeguard Critical National Assets and Infrastructure during the approaching electioneering period.
The commandant emphasised the need for officers to remain apolitical, professional and impartial while carrying out their constitutional responsibilities across the state.
He urged personnel to uphold the rule of law and avoid actions capable of undermining public confidence in the corps during political activities.
“As Civil Defenders, we are mandated to treat all members of the public equally, without bias, discrimination or favouritism.
“We must uphold the fundamental human rights of every citizen while discharging our duties professionally and responsibly.”
Hassan directed Area Commanders and Divisional Officers to provide effective leadership and ensure proper supervision of personnel under their commands.
He also called for stronger collaboration with relevant stakeholders to enhance security operations and support peaceful coexistence across Yobe communities.

According to him, sustained cooperation among security agencies, community leaders and other partners remains vital to maintaining peace and stability in the state.
The commandant stressed that the corps must maintain the highest standards of discipline, professionalism and neutrality at all times.
He reaffirmed the NSCDC’s commitment to protecting critical infrastructure and fulfilling its constitutional mandate irrespective of political affiliations.
Hassan said adherence to neutrality and professionalism would strengthen public trust and ensure the corps remains a dependable institution during the electoral process.
