ZAMFARA NG-CARES BENEFICIARIES URGED TO FORM COOPERATIVES 

The Zamfara Community and Social Development Agency (CSDA) on Saturday urged beneficiaries of the NG-Cares in the state to form cooperative societies in order to gain more from the financial support given to them.

Mr Umar Nakwada, the Manager, Labour Intensive Public Workfare (LIPW) of the NG-Cares made the call in Gusau on Saturday at the Train-the-Trainers Programme for the Desk Officers and LIPW beneficiaries from the 14 Local Governments Areas of the state.

The programme was organised by the agency part of the Delivery Platform of Results Area 1 of the NG-Cares.

The NG-CARES programme is a 750 million dollars state-driven initiative backed by the World Bank, specifically for the elevation of businesses affected by COVID-19.

Through the NG-CARES, the World Bank in collaboration with the Federal Government aims to deliver targeted relief, restore livelihoods and stimulate the economic recovery of vulnerable households and MSMEs in Nigeria.

Nakwada said a total of 886 unemployed youth and women were registered in the state under the LPWI of the NG-Cares programme.

“The beneficieries engaged in various labour works in their respective communities”, he said.

Nakwada said that each beneficiary received N15,000 for the LPWI project for the period of one year.

He said beneficiaries should form cooperatives in order to gain more from the programme and other financial support organisations

Also speaking, State Coordinator NG-Cares Coordinator, Mukhtar Ruwandorawa urged LGAs desk officers and beneficieries to extend the knowledge acquired from this training to other beneficieries at grassroots,

“You need to have a cluster in delivering your responsibilities and you must  intensify through the clusters for result.

“As we all know, the NG-Cares is a programme of results, you should work inline with the guidelines of the NG-Cares”, Ruwandorawa said.

The General Manager of the Agency, Alhaji Garba Muhammad described the training as a timely and welcome development.

Muhammad represented by the Manager Basic Services of the agency, Alhaji Sani Buhari said the programme is part of the agency’s activities in implementing Delivery Results Area 1, of the NG-Cares in the state.

According to him the participants are expected to step down the training to other beneficieries in the 14 LGAs.

During the training, various resource persons delivered papers on Rights, Roles and Responsibilities of the beneficieries of the LIPW and relationship of the  beneficiaries with stakeholders.

Other papers presented include terms and engagement for LIPW activities as well as empowerment and formation of cooperatives societies.
