Children’s Day: Leadway unveils book reading initiative in public schools

Leadway Group has launched extra-curricular initiative campaign tagged: ‘Pages to Places’ in 12 public schools in six states to mark the 2023 Children’s Day.

The Group Chief Marketing Officer, Leadway Holdings, Mr Olusakin Labeodan, said this in a statement to newsmen on Thursday in Lagos.

Labeodan said the initiative was launched in Lagos, Ogun, Abuja, Kaduna, Enugu and Port Harcourt.

He said the ‘Pages to Places’ initiative, targeted at children, is a book reading initiative across selected public primary schools.

Labeodan said that the group was committed to promoting literacy, bolstering reading culture and improving quality education among children between the ages of six and 12.

He added that the initiative was to steer the young generation toward broadening their healthy imaginative abilities.

According to him, the initiative will help the targetted audience believe in a better world, become better, more creative and promising individuals.

“The “Pages to Places” initiative is under the group’s education-focused Corporate Social Responsibility drive, Leadway Goes to School.

“It has been designed to commemorate the 2023 Children’s day celebration and is scheduled to run from May 30 to June 7.

“According to the World Culture Score Index, Nigeria has one of the world’s lowest reading cultures.

“Available statistics from the National Commission for Mass Literacy, Adult and Non-Formal Education, shows that 38 per cent of Nigerians are illiterate, which includes four out of every 10 primary school children,” he said.

According to him, the transformative power of a book, has potential to improve the intellectual capacity of our young ones.

Labeodan noted that the books had the capacity to shape the future into a promising horizon despite one’s social-economic background.

“With a little over 40 per cent of Nigerians comprising young people under the age of 14, it has become imperative for organisations like ours to intervene and help build this generation into a pipeline of global talents and leaders.

“This is the philosophy that drives our organisation. We are thrilled to be launching this initiative with hundreds of children who desperately need to improve their skills,” he said.

Leadway Holdings is a Nigerian non-banking financial services corporation managing Leadway Insurance, that provides education, commercial, personal property and casualty insurance, travel and life insurance.
