Zamfara Government charges parents on Girls’ Child Education
The Zamfara State Government has called on parents in the state to give priority to girls’ child education.
The State Commissioner for Women and Children Affairs, Hajiya Zainab Gummi gave the charge on Thursday in Gusau at an event to commemorate the 2021 International Women’s Day organised by the Save the Children International (SCI) an NGO.
The event was organised by Global Affairs of Canada (GAC) funded project, “Reaching and Empowering Adolescent to Make inform Choices (REACH)” of the SCI in partnership with the Civil Society Organisations in the state.

The VSOs are “Voluntary Aid Initiative (VAI) and Saving Mothers and Child Initiatives (SMACI).
The theme of the event is “Women and Girls in Leadership Acheiving an equal figure for Women, Girls in Covid-19 World”
The Commissioner emphasized the need for parents to send their children to schools.
“Parents should not be discourage with the insecurity situation while sending their children to schools”, She said.
She assured continued government’s commitments to continue providing education to citizens of the state.
“The state government have been working with security agencies to tackle the menace of insecurity in the state”, She added.
She commended the SCI for organising the event and supporting the state for various development programmes.
In her remark, the SCI Community Engagement and Advocacy Coordinator in charge of REACH project in the state, Hajiya Zainab Usman said the event is to encourage women and girls to participate actively in education and also to promote their health.
“We consider to carry out this activity as a commemoration of 2021 International Women’s Day to put hope on women for various future opportunities”, she said.
The Coordinator represented by VAI official, Suwaiba Abubakar called on women to come out and challenge Gender Base Violence (GBV) in the society
“Women should expose their voices out against domestic violence, out of school children and the insecurity threatening their lives and future education.
“Women as mothers, we should be exposing GVB issues affecting women and girls in the society.
“We must ensure that all our children are enrolled in to schools”, Hajiya Zainab added.
In her remark, Prof. Sa’adatu Abubakar from Microbiology Department, Federal University Gusau advised women to always ensure close monitoring their children.
Abubakar said “parents should always be vigilant with their children”.
“They should have time to discuss with their children especially the females on problems affecting them”
