Burkina Faso: Ibrahim Traoré Allocates Over 78 Billion CFA Francs in Equipment to Boost Agricultural Sector
In a move aimed at enhancing agricultural productivity in Burkina Faso, President Ibrahim Traoré has allocated equipment worth more than 78 billion CFA francs to local producers. The distribution took place on Monday as part of the government’s efforts to promote food self-sufficiency and bolster the agro-pastoral and fisheries sectors.
Under the leadership of the Transitional authorities, a significant increase in support for agro-sylvo-pastoral producers has been announced for the year 2024. President Traoré highlighted the substantial scale-up in resources, stating that the equipment and fertilizers provided this year far surpass previous allocations.
“This year, we are making available twice the amount of equipment compared to 2023 and over five times the average quantity distributed in the past 5 years. Similarly, the provision of chemical fertilizers will see an allocation of approximately 68,900 tons, more than double the amount distributed in 2023 and over five times the average of the past 5 years,” remarked President Traoré.
Encouraging the youth to engage in agriculture, President Traoré emphasized the presence of focal points in various regions who will provide assistance to aspiring producers. This initiative underscores the government’s commitment to supporting local farmers and driving agricultural development across Burkina Faso.
The substantial investment in agricultural equipment and resources signifies a renewed focus on bolstering the country’s agricultural sector and promoting self-sufficiency in food production. The distribution of equipment and fertilizers is expected to have a significant impact on boosting agricultural productivity and improving livelihoods for producers in Burkina Faso.
