The Nigerian Immigration Service has announced the profound loss of a pioneer in the service, Mr. S.A. Mathew, affectionately known as Matto. His legacy is marked by a series of groundbreaking achievements and contributions that have left an indelible mark on the immigration landscape.

Mr. Mathew’s impact on immigration was nothing short of revolutionary. He was the visionary behind the inception of the Immigration Band in Kwara, a testament to his innovative spirit and dedication to the service. Additionally, he played a pivotal role in the establishment of the Provost and Immigration Police, institutions that have since become integral components of the immigration infrastructure.

Notably, Mr. Mathew was instrumental in training the first batch of Gossa-trained immigration officers, paving the way for a new generation of skilled professionals in the field. His leadership was further evidenced by his role as the first team leader to the Joint Task Force (JTF), where he narrowly escaped a brush with death, underscoring his courage and commitment to duty.

Throughout his illustrious career, Mr. Mathew accumulated a multitude of accolades, including serving as a parade commander and instructor, as well as holding the esteemed position of Armourer at the headquarters. His unwavering dedication and expertise have set a standard of excellence that will be sorely missed in the immigration community.

With heavy hearts, we bid farewell to this gallant officer, whose pioneering spirit and remarkable contributions have left an enduring impact on the immigration sector. As we mourn the loss of a true trailblazer, we honor his memory and legacy, which will continue to inspire future generations of immigration professionals.
