ASUU ABU Disburses N4.4m Scholarship To 22 Indigent Students
The Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) Ahmadu Bello University Zaria branch has disbursed an N4.4 million scholarship to 22 indigent students studying various courses
Comrade Haruna M. Jibril, ASUU chairman, stated this during the Yusuf Bala Usman Hall St Main Campus Samaru scholarship award ceremony.
He said the scholarship for indigent students is initiated by the national body of ASUU. At least two students from the national body mandated it, and the remaining 20 students were from the branch.
Comrade Jibril said that this year, the number has doubled from 10 to 22 following Congress’ approval to increase the beneficiaries.
According to him, the beneficiaries were carefully selected after intensive screening by the committee saddled with the screening mandate.
He hopes to do more in the subsequent years ahead, as ASUU shows sympathy and concern for students with supportive problems who want to continue their studies.
In his message, the Vice Chancellor of Ahmadu Bello University Zaria, Professor Kabiru Bala, charged other in-house unions to emulate ASUU by supporting indigent students in the University.
