Nguru LGA wins KMT unity cup in Yobe
Nguru Local Government Area (LGA) of Yobe has emerged champion of the KMT Unity Cup football competition held in the state.
KMT is the nickname of Kashim Musa-Tumsah, a development advocate, who initiated the grassroot tournament to promote unity and friendship among youths across the state.
Team Nguru secured a resounding 5-1 victory against Potiskum LGA in the final match played on Saturday at the Miyatti Sports Arena in Damaturu.
Mr Hassan Bijod, Chairman of the Local Organising Committee (LOC), told the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the competition was a pilot phase ahead of a broader tournament expected to kick off soon.
He said the organiser drew inspiration from former South African President, Nelson Mandela, who famously leveraged sports as a unifying force during his leadership.

Bijod commended Tumsah’s efforts toward initiating the tournament, noting that his message of unity and collective development resonated throughout the event.
“Barrister Tumsah believes that disunity hinders progress.
“He has consistently emphasised that peace and unity are critical pillars for sustainable development.
“The KMT Unity Cup drew participation from various communities across the state, fostering camaraderie, sportsmanship and youth engagement,” the LOC chairman said.
Highlights of the occasion included the presentation of N500,000 cash to team Nguru and N300,000 to team potiskum, while other teams received N100,000 each.
