Gov. Buni Pledges Unwavering Support for Landmark Kidney Disease Research Project to Find Solution to Kidney Disease in Yobe State
Yobe State Governor, His Excellency Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, has reaffirmed the state government’s steadfast commitment to a groundbreaking research initiative aimed at tackling the alarming prevalence of kidney disease in parts of the state.

The Governor made this pledge today during a presentation of an interim report by Professor Mahmoud Maina Bukar, Founder/Director of the Biomedical Research and Training Center (BioRTC).
The research, the largest state-funded disease research project in Africa according to Professor Bukar, involved the analysis of 2,000 samples collected from Bade and Damaturu Local Government Areas.
Preliminary findings indicate a significantly higher risk of kidney disease among fishermen in Bade LGA, necessitating further investigation.
Governor Buni emphasized the gravity of the situation, stating, “This research work is a wake-up call to the government and people of the state, and we are committed to seeing it through to its logical conclusion.
We are committed to ending this menace, regardless of the cost.”
The research project boasts a team of 50 specialists from around the globe, collaborating with the BioRTC, which is currently hosting the fifth Summer School on Computational Neuroscience, attracting both local and international participants.

This international collaboration underscores the project’s significance and the global expertise it harnesses.
