Lawmaker trains, empowers 200 Zamfara women to become self-reliant

The lawmaker representing Gusau/Tsafe Federal Constituency in Zamfara, Rep. Kabiru Maipalace, has trained 200 women in various vocational skills to enable them to become self-reliant.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the women were trained under Maipalace’s empowerment programme.

They were also equipped with the necessary empowerment tools to start their own enterprises.

Speaking at the graduation ceremony in Gusau on Sunday, Maipalace said the empowerment was part of his initiatives to help his constituents become self-reliant.

According to him, the programme is aimed at complementing Gov. Dauda Lawal’s efforts in addressing the current economic challenges, as well as reducing vulnerability among women.

“Today, we are witnessing the graduation of 200 women trainees, empowered under my empowerment programme after undergoing three-month training in various vocational skills.

“All the women were trained in various skills, such as tailoring, catering, hairdressing, soyabeans gala and bakery,” he said.

“Others include knitting, tie-and-dye, fashion design, and soap making, among others.

“We are presenting items, raw materials as donations for them to start businesses they have learned during the training,” Maipalace said.

Also speaking, the Chief of Staff to Zamfara Governor, Alhaji Mukhtar Lugga, described the empowerment as a welcome development.

“It is very impressive to have this programme sponsored and implemented by the lawmaker to empower our women.

“As we all know, women are our mothers.

“We encourage all stakeholders to encourage them to have good standard of living.

“This is in line with the rescue mission agenda of Lawal’s  administration.

“As we all know, it is necessary for every government to support empowerment programmes like this for women,“ he said.

Lugga called on the beneficiaries to use the opportunity to run small and medium scale businesses for them to take care of their responsibilities.

Speaking earlier, the Secretary to the lawmaker, Mr Mustafa Hassan, said that the programme was part of the activities to mark the lawmaker’s two-year anniversary in office.

Hassan said that the lawmaker also donated 12 new motorcycles to teachers of Islamic schools from Gusau and Tsafe Local Government Areas (LGAs).

“The lawmaker also empowered 100 people with special needs with N30,000 cash each.

“The gesture is aimed at encouraging them to participate in various skills to be self-reliant.

“He also donated mattresses, books and writing materials to 30 Islamic schools in Gusau and Tsafe LGAs,” Hassan said.
