Flood : NEDC supports 2,261 households with food, non-food items in Yobe

The North East Development Commission (NEDC) has distributed food and non-food items to 2,261 households affected by recent floods in Potiskum, Nangere and Jakusko Council Areas.

Ass. Prof. Ali Abbas, NEDC Coordinator in the state, stated this while flagging the distribution exercise in Potiskum on Sunday.

According to him, the beneficiaries are drawn from 21 communities across the local government areas.

He listed items distributed to include rice, spaghetti, vegetable oil, blankets, wrappers, brocade and mats.

Abbas called on individuals and non government organisations to also support the victims.

In his remarks, Alhaji Salisu Mukhtari, Chairman, Potiskum Local Government Council, thanked the NEDC for coming to the aid of the victims.

He noted that flood was a natural disaster, but cautioned residents against building houses on waterways.

Mukhtari assured that the council would continue to channel funds into drains clearance, calling on residents to imbibe the culture of refuse evacuation.

He commended President Bola Tinubu and Gov Mai Mala Buni for their efforts toward socio-economic development of the state.

Balki Ahmed, Bala Hassan and Mai Lambu Umaru a beneficiaries and resident of Jigawa in Potiskum, also thanked the NEDC for the support, which they described as timely.

They  noted that the August 15 flood had destroyed their  entire houses  and rendered their  family homeless.

Our correspondent reports that the Commission also distributed the materials victims in Nangere and Jakusko local government respectively.
