Taraba high courts adopt legal mail, e-filing application system
Justice Joel Agya, Chief Judge ( C-J) of Taraba, has said that state high courts have keyed into the Nigeria Case Management System (NCMS), legal mail and e-filing application system.
Agya made the declaration on Wednesday at the Roundtable Stakeholders Discussion on the Enrollment and On Boarding of Taraba High Courts into Nigeria Case Management System,
Legal Mail and E-filing Application in Jalingo.
He said that the world had transited into information and communication technology (ICT), justifying why Taraba Judiciary should not be left behind.
“This initiative represents more than a technology upgrade, it is a commitment to efficiency, transparency and timely justice delivery.
“We have started a pilot programme to digitise court proceedings in the state, beginning with the Chief Judge’s court.
“The judiciary staff have been trained in e-filing as part of the Nigeria Case Management System, training has also involved judges, registrars, litigation staff, court clerks among others.
“Our goal is a full roll out of digitised court rooms by expanding the proceedings to all high courts and the lower courts, possibly in phases, prioritising the urban centres, which have better infrastructure.
“The success of this reform, however, depend on our shared understanding and cooperation.
That is why this roundtable is so vital as it provides a platform for all stakeholders to exchange ideas, identify challenges and chart a clear part for seamless implementation,” he said.
The C-J commended the National Judicial Council (NJC), under the leadership of Justice Kekere Ekun, Chief Judge of the Federation and the Judiciary Information Technology Policy Committee (JITPC) headed by Justice Kashim Zanna for their guidance.
In his remarks, Justice Kashim Zanna, Chief Judge of Borno and the the Chairman, JITPC said that Nigeria has spent millions of dollars in the implementation of NCMS.

Also speaking, Yakubu Maikasuwa (SAN), Taraba Attorney General and Commissioner for Justice, described the the technology as a ‘watershed innovation’ by the C-J of Taraba.
Maikasuwa said that the state government was committed to supporting any innovation that would improve service delivery as well as enable the judiciary to key into global best practices.
