FOPGEMOV in partnership with Yobe Children’s Academy, celebrates World Food Day.

Yobe Children’s Academy, Damaturu Young Farmers Club, in collaboration with the Forum for the Promotion of gender equity and Moral Values (FOPGEMOV), has organised World Food Day to empower young girls in agribusiness.

 Theme hand in hand for better food and a better future took place at Kaka Naru Auditorium, Yobe Children’s Academy, Damaturu.

 In her welcome address, the executive director of the Forum for the Promotion of gender equity and Moral Values, Fatima Ahmad Amshi, highlighted the significance of the day, pointing out that there is a need for motivating young girls to embrace agricultural activities.

 The executive director further assured the willingness of the forum to enlighten the secondary school pupils on gender equity and moral values to inculcate the habit of self-reliance through agribusiness.

 Hajiya Fatima Ahmad Amshi calls on the young girls to pay attention and to be acquainted with the prerequisite knowledge on farming activities.

 In her remarks, Principal Yobe Children’s Academy, Hajiya Hajara Ahmad Amshi, said the event was organised to encourage the young farmers club to venture into agricultural activities for better food and a better future.

 The principal applauded the efforts of the academy for initiating the young farmers club aimed at improving food security and sufficiency in Yobe and Nigeria in general.

 Shedding more light on the significance of the event, Deborah Bwala of the Food and Agriculture Organisation FAO emphasises the importance of unity and cooperation among the young girls to have access to financing mechanisms to promote food production.

 Deborah Bwala said the United Nations, through the FAO, is doing everything possible to ensure food security and sufficiency.

 During the event, Yobe Children’s Academy head girl Halima Adamu Alkali said the gathering underscores the commitment of the academy toward sustainable food security and sufficiency through the young farmers club.

 She calls on students to venture into agriculture as a means of livelihood and socioeconomic advancement.
