Nasarawa Assembly passes bill extending judges retirement age
The Nasarawa State House of Assembly on Monday passed a Bill seeking to extend the retirement age of some category of Judges and Magistrates from 60 years to 65 years.
The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports the house equally passed a Bill for a law to establish the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital, Akwanga.
Speaking during proceedings in the House in Lafia, the Speaker, Dr Danladi Jatau, said the bills would be forwarded to the state Governor, Abdullahi Sule for his assents.
Jatau explained that the bill for the extension of retirement age, concerns Magistrates, Sharia Court Sole Judges, Customary Court Sole Judges, Area Court Judges and Customary Court Judges.
The speaker said that the DASH Akwanga bill, if finally assented to by the Governor would improve on the health status of the people of the state and others.
“A Bill for a Law to Establish the Dalhatu Araf Specialist Hospital Akwanga, 2025 and Other Matters Connected Therewith is read for the third time and passed.
“A Bill for a Law to Provide for Magistrates, Sharia Court Sole Judges, Customary Court Sole Judge, Area Court Judges and Customary Court Judges Increase of Retirement Age Service Law, 2025 and Other Matters Connected Thereto is also read for the third term and passed.

“Please, Clerk, prepares clean copies of the bills for my perusal and onward transmission to Gov. Sule for his assents,” he said.
Earlier, the Majority Leader of the House, Mr Suleiman Azara moved motions for the bills to scale third reading, respectively.
Mr Luka Zhekaba, the Minority Leader of the House respectively, seconded the motions.
VMT NEWS reports that the House unanimously passed the two respective bills.
