Governor Buni Fortifies Partnerships with International Community on Peace, Recovery and Development
Yobe State Governor Hon. (Dr.) Mai Mala Buni, CON, COMN, today hosted a high-level meeting with members of the diplomatic corps, solidifying existing partnerships and exploring new opportunities to bolster peace, security, and sustainable development within the state.

The interactive session focused on strengthening collaboration in key areas including resettlement, economic recovery, and the implementation of the Yobe State Action Plan on Solutions to Internal Displacement (SOLID).
The meeting, saw the participation of key diplomatic figures, including the Ambassadors of Switzerland, Japan, Turkey, and the United Arab Emirates (UAE). Representatives from the UK Development Director and the German Agency for International Cooperation (GIZ) were also present, highlighting the international community’s keen interest in supporting Yobe State’s recovery efforts.
Governor Buni expressed his deep appreciation for the diplomatic community’s crucial support in Yobe State’s ongoing recovery program. He provided an update on the progress achieved, emphasizing advancements in consolidating stability, promoting peaceful resettlement, and improving access to essential services for residents.
“We have made remarkable progress,” Governor Buni stated, “achieved through strong cooperation with our valued partners.” He proudly noted that Yobe State is at the forefront of the durable solution program in Nigeria, boasting the highest number of voluntary returns of internally displaced persons (IDPs) in the northeast region.

He singled out the community of Mallam Dunari as the only remaining area yet to be fully resettled, underscoring the state’s commitment to providing lasting solutions for displaced populations.
The discussions covered critical issues, including the recovery of communities, reintegration strategies for displaced individuals, and the transition from humanitarian aid to durable solutions.
Economic recovery was a central theme, with agriculture and livestock development identified as core sectors for employment, food security, and attracting much-needed investment.
The meeting also addressed enhancing donor coordination and streamlining engagement channels between the Yobe State Government and the diplomatic missions.

Mr. Patrick Egloff, the Swiss Ambassador to Nigeria, lauded Governor Buni’s unwavering commitment to the resettlement of displaced communities.
He affirmed the Swiss government’s willingness to deepen its partnership with Yobe State, expressing his desire to visit the state and witness firsthand the progress made.
Ambassador Egloff also encouraged Governor Buni to leverage his position as Chairman of the Lake Chad Governor’s Forum to encourage other member states to replicate Yobe’s successful strategies.
The meeting concluded with a shared commitment to fostering a stronger and more collaborative environment, paving the way for continued progress and a brighter future for the people of Yobe State.
The visit underscores the state’s resolve to create a stable and prosperous environment, attracting international support and investment.
