League of Northern Democrats Calls for Thorough Investigation into Petition Against NMDPRA CEO
The League of Northern Delegates has noted with deep concern the petition reportedly submitted to the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission
(ICPC) by Alhaji Aliko Dangote, alleging misconduct by the Chief Executive Officer of the
Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA), Engr.
Ahmed Farouk. Given the prominence of the individuals and institutions involved, as well as the strategic importance of the petroleum midstream and downstream sector to
Nigeria’s economy, this development raises serious public interest and concerns that cannot be ignored. As such, the League emphasizes the need for a transparent, impartial and prompt response.
The League emphasizes that allegations of this nature involving the leadership of a critical
regulatory institution such as the NMDPRA have far-reaching implications for national economic stability, energy security, revenue generation, and industrial growth, investor confidence, and public trust in regulatory governance. As such, it is imperative that the issues raised in the petition are treated with the utmost seriousness, objectivity, fairness and professionalism it deserves by the appropriate authorities. It is imperative that all parties are accorded due process, and that no conclusions are drawn until a comprehensive, open and thorough investigations are concluded. Such an approach will help safeguard public interest and reinforce confidence in Nigeria’s anti-corruption and regulatory frameworks. The integrity of regulatory institutions is fundamental to investor confidence, market stability, and national economic security.

The League further notes that transparency in handling this matter is essential to prevent
misinformation, speculation, or politicization that could undermine economic stability or public trust. A clear, fact-based outcome, communicated responsibly, will serve the national interest and uphold the rule of law, ensuring that neither status nor influence
obstructs the pursuit of truth.
In reiterating its position, the League of Northern Delegates urges all stakeholders to remain calm, respect institutional processes, and avoid actions or statements that could prejudice ongoing inquiries. The League reaffirms its commitment to accountability, fairness, and the protection of Nigeria’s critical national economic interests.
