New NCC Board Convenes Inaugural Retreat, Lays Foundation for Digital Economy Dominance

A new era for Nigeria’s telecommunications sector has begun as the recently constituted Board of the Nigerian Communications Commission (NCC) held its first induction retreat.

In Uyo, Akwa Ibom State, Board Chairman Chief Idris Olorunnimbe led a strategic session with Board members and the NCC Management team, solidifying the Commission’s commitment to propelling Nigeria’s digital economy forward.

The intensive program included expert-led deliberations on crucial aspects of governance and regulation. Participants delved into the intricacies of the Nigerian Communications Act, corporate governance principles, and the adoption of global regulatory best practices.

The Commission highlighted the deep and focused discussions aimed at enhancing regulatory credibility and delivering tangible benefits for the telecommunications industry, its consumers, and the nation’s burgeoning digital landscape.

Addressing attendees, Chief Olorunnimbe framed the retreat as the commencement of a collective endeavor aligned with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda.

He underscored the Board’s mandate to protect the robustness and competitive edge of Nigeria’s telecoms ecosystem, while actively creating an environment conducive to innovation, attracting significant investment, and spearheading digital transformation.

Olorunnimbe conveyed his unwavering belief in the NCC’s capacity to transcend its regulatory function and emerge as a powerful engine for national progress.
