Giwa-Yakawada Road: Kaduna communities link improved access to enhanced security

The construction of the 12.5 kilometre Giwa,Yakawada Road by Gov. Uba Sani of Kaduna State has eased transportation and improved security in the area.

Residents and community leaders in Giwa Local Government Area described the project as a major relief after years of hardship caused by the deplorable condition of the road.

The residents also commended the construction of the Rafin Kogi Store Bridge, saying its previous condition had contributed to fatal accidents and created opportunities for bandits to operate.

The people of the area made this known in an interview with newsmen on Wednesday in the area.

The District Head of Yakawada, Mallam Ridwanu Yakawada, said that previous administrations had promised to rehabilitate the road without fulfilling their commitments until the present administration commenced construction.

He described the project as a blessing to residents, who had endured difficulties travelling along the route.

Abubakar Ibrahim, a resident, described the newly constructed bridge as a quality project that had addressed longstanding concerns in the community.

He expressed appreciation to the governor and called on residents to support him in the 2027 general elections.

Similarly, the Councillor representing Yakawada Ward, Hussain Bara’u, said the community had experienced significant relief under the Uba Sani administration.

Bara’u said the improved road and bridge infrastructure had addressed security challenges previously associated with difficult access to the area.

Managing Director of the Kaduna State Roads Agency (KADRA), Dr Abdullahi Baba Ahmed said the project was initially approved for double coat asphalt but that the governor later directed the company to asphalt the entire stretch from Giwa to Yakawada.

He said the directive would ensure that the road received asphalt throughout its length, adding that the project was expected to be completed soon.

Ahmed commended residents for their cooperation, saying they had supported the workers and regularly provided food during construction.

He said the cordial relationship between the company, FARMTRAC, handling the project and the host community had helped prevent disputes and facilitated the smooth execution of the project.

According to him, FARMTRAC, a wholly Nigerian company, has maintained a positive relationship with residents, who have treated the workers as members of their community.

Ahmed also expressed appreciation for the support, saying the community had demonstrated ownership of the project and commitment to its successful completion.
