NEDC Support Yobe Custodial Centres with Digital Literacy center,  Food and Non Food Items.

Towards celebrations of Christmas and new year the Northeast Development Commission NEDC has today Tuesday 23rd December 2025 donated food and non food items to Nigerian Correctional Service (NCS) in Yobe State.

The Yobe State Coordinator NEDC, Prof. Ali Ibrahim Abbas, during the presentation in Potiskum town presented the relief materials to State Controller of Corrections and the Potiskum management of the Medium Custodial Centre.

Abbas revealed that the Management of NEDC led by Mohammed G. Alkali had earlier instructed NEDC Yobe State Office to support the Yobe inmates with food and non food items in order to improve their welfare and living condition especially during the end of year seasons. 

“We are here today in Potiskum Medium Security Custodial Center with the State Controller of Corrections to deliver these food and non food items. We are going to all the custodial centers across Yobe State to directly deliver same items that are meant to improve human dignity, welfare and happiness of the people in the  facilities”  Abbas said.

In his separate remarks  Salisu Muktari, the Executive Chairman of Potiskum LGA said ”we are here on behalf of all the people of Potiskum LGA and our leader His Excellency the Yobe State Governor to appreciate NEDC for their delivery of food and non-food items to the Correctional Center in Potiskum and other facilities .”

“As a Local Government, we are glad these items came handy especially in this harmattan season and new year celebration. We are also looking at how we can come in to assist the inmates particularly in the area of sustainable water supply and other welfare services.”

The Yobe State Controller of Corrections Mr. Ortsergah J. Terver acknowledged and appreciated NEDC for the receipt the donated food and non food items to include 110 bags of rice, 110 cartons of spaghetti, 530 pieces of blankets, and 265 pieces of mats. 

Mr. Terver while expressing optimism the that the items would greatly alleviate some of the problems the inmates encounter, he expressed his appreciation to NEDC and Yobe State Government for this support and reassured of the command’s prudent utilization of all items received.

The Controller further commended the NEDC for the establishment of NEDC Digital Literacy Center in the Potiskum Medium Security Custodial Center aimed at empowering and reforming the inmates while serving sentences before they are discharged back to the society. 

The custodial center was fully equipped by NEDC with some desktops, laptops, printers, desktop tables, standing fans, flip chat boards, executive tables and chairs in addition to complete set of solar power systems.
