Children’s Day: Nasarawa Speaker calls for end to child labour

Speaker, Nasarawa State House of Assembly, Ibrahim Balarabe-Abdullahi, has called for more collaboration to end child labour and  other forms of violence against children.

The Speaker also called for the provision of quality education for children to make their future brighter.

In a message to mark the 2021 Children’s Day on Thursday in Lafia, Balarabe-Abdullahi noted that education was the best instrument to fight poverty and other societal vices.

He, therefore, urged parents to give priority to the education of their children.

The speaker expressed concern about the number of out-of-school children in the country but restated the commitment of the assembly to make laws that would protect children’s rights in the state.

He described children as special gifts from God, hence the need for parents, guidance and authorities concern to ensure that the Nigerian child was given the necessary support.

He said that such support could come through love, education and moral training in order to build an egalitarian society.

“If parents and other stakeholders  join hands with government in tackling child abuse, child labour and violence against children in the country, it would go a long way in promoting peace and societal development,’’ Balarabe-Abdullahi said.
