FUT Minna Secures TETFund N1 Billion Agricultural Grant Amidst Milestone Convocation
The Federal University of Technology (FUT), Minna, is set to celebrate a significant milestone with its 34th convocation ceremony and 43rd Founders’ Day Anniversary, marked by the achievement of a N1 billion grant from the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund).
This substantial funding, awarded under the Agricultural Commercial Farm Grant, positions FUT, Minna, among ten select universities nationwide to bolster agricultural research, practical training, and commercial farming initiatives.
Announcing these developments during a press conference, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Faruk Adamu-Kuta highlighted the grant’s alignment with national objectives for food security and economic diversification.
He also revealed that the university has attracted considerable international research funding in 2025, including a substantial three million dollars ICT Development grant from the Agence Française de Développement and a £15,000 Open Access Books grant from the United Kingdom.
These successes, according to Prof. Adamu-Kuta, are a testament to the growing local and international confidence in FUT, Minna’s research capabilities, accountability, and innovative spirit.
The upcoming convocation, scheduled for February 1, will honor 5,297 graduates from the 2024/2025 academic session. This cohort includes 4,438 first-degree holders, 73 postgraduate diploma recipients, 633 master’s degree awardees, and 153 doctoral degree recipients.
Among the graduating students, 111 achieved first-class honours, with 1,525 earning second-class upper degrees, 2,134 second-class lower, 631 third-class, and 37 receiving pass degrees.
The university’s academic prowess was further recognized in the 2026 Times Higher Education World University Rankings, where FUT, Minna, was ranked the seventh best university in Nigeria and the highest-rated specialized university in the country.

The university has also completed significant infrastructure projects, including a gross anatomy laboratory and a bioinformatics laboratory, and has commenced the construction of a professorial office complex.
Adding to its quality assurance measures, FUT, Minna, voluntarily underwent an international quality assessment by the UK Quality Assurance Agency in November 2025 and was selected for the TETFund Academic Staff Training Scholarship.
The convocation week will feature a series of events, including religious services, a convocation lecture, exhibitions, project commissioning, sporting events, and prize awards.
Prof. Adamu-Kuta reaffirmed the university’s dedication to academic excellence, innovation, integrity, and community service, appealing for continued partnerships with government, industry, and the media to enhance research commercialization and global visibility.
