The Yobe State Solutions for Internally Displaced Persons and Host Communities (SOLID) Project has conducted an in-house training for its staff on the New Nigerian Tax Law, as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and ensure full compliance with prevailing fiscal regulations.

In a statement issued and made available to newsmen by the information and communication officer of the project Ali Musa Yawale said the one-day training, held at the SOLID Project Office in Damaturu, brought together relevant project staff to enhance their understanding of the provisions, implications, and operational requirements of the new tax regime, particularly as they relate to public-sector project implementation

Speaking at the opening session, the Project Coordinator, Suleiman Dauda described the training as a strategic capacity-building initiative aimed at equipping staff with the knowledge required to uphold professionalism, accountability, and effective service delivery.

Mr Dauda noted that continuous reforms in tax administration make it essential for institutions to regularly update the skills and awareness of their personnel.

According to him, strengthening staff understanding of the tax framework is critical not only for compliance but also for reinforcing sound financial management practices, transparency, and credibility in the execution of project activities.

The consultant and lead facilitator, Dr Abdularahman Alkali Gaji, delivered detailed presentations on the New Tax Law, breaking down key concepts and provisions clearly and practically to aid understanding.

He highlighted major changes introduced by the law, clarified the responsibilities of organisations and employees, and outlined practical steps required to ensure compliance.

The session also featured interactive discussions, during which participants’ questions were addressed.

Staff expressed appreciation to the project management for organising the training, describing it as timely and valuable in improving their knowledge and strengthening their capacity to discharge their responsibilities in line with statutory requirements.
