Bauchi varsity strengthens global research ties through international partnerships

The Vice-Chancellor, Sa’adu Zungur University (SAZU), Prof. Fatima Tahir, has said that the institution has established partnerships with several foreign institutions to enhance academic research and innovation.

Tahir stated this at the 8th, 9th, and 10th combined convocation ceremony held on Saturday in Gadau, Azare Local Government Area of Bauchi State.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the combined convocation honoured 1,256 undergraduate students, Master’s degree holders, and PhD recipients.

She listed the partner institutions to include Don State Technical University, University Sains Malaysia, and Sunway University.

Others, she said, include a fellowship agreement with the Coalition for Epidemic Preparedness Innovations and an academic affiliation with Project ECHO at the University of New Mexico.

The VC encouraged graduands to drive development through entrepreneurship and innovation as pathways to national development.

“Do not limit yourselves to job seeking; become innovators, entrepreneurs, and leaders who will contribute meaningfully to society,” she advocated.

The vice-chancellor also urged the graduands to uphold the values of integrity, hard work, discipline, and service to humanity in their future endeavours.

Tahir assured that 17 academic programmes of the university were accredited by the National Universities Commission (NUC).

“The university has continued to record achievements in academics. 17 programmes were successfully accredited by the NUC.

“The institution has also accessed Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFund) interventions from 2023 to date,” she said.

The vice-chancellor commended the Bauchi State Government for improved funding support, which she said, had boosted the university’s operations and staff welfare.

She listed some ongoing and proposed projects in the university to included a hotel facility, staff housing in Yuli and Gadau campuses, as well as the establishment of a Medical College.

Tahir also appreciated the support of TETFund and the Nigerian National Petroleum Company Limited (NNPC Ltd.) for their interventions, including the construction and equipping of a state-of-the-art ICT centre.
