Youth Restiveness and Drug-Related Violence Result in Homicide in Damaturu.

The Yobe State Police Command wishes to draw the attention of the public to the growing concern of youth restiveness, substance abuse, and violent confrontations among young persons, which have recently led to tragic incidents in Damaturu.

On 7th April 2026 at about 1410hrs, a distress report was received at ‘A’ Division Police Station Damaturu regarding a violent attack that occurred earlier at about 0630hrs in the Bindigari Primary School area.

 In a statement made available to newsmen by the police public relations officer Yobe police  command SP Dungus Abdulkarim Said 

Preliminary investigation revealed that one Adamu Suleiman Saidu ‘M’, 33 years, was allegedly attacked by Musa Mohammed, also known as “Aljan”, aged 24 years, following a misunderstanding believed to be connected to substance abuse. During the altercation, the suspect allegedly attacked the victim with an axe, inflicting severe injuries to his head, while the suspect sustained minor injuries during the fight.

Police operatives swiftly mobilized to the scene, arrested the suspect, and recovered the axe used in committing the offence, which has been registered as an exhibit. The victim was immediately rushed to the General Hospital Damaturu for medical attention but sadly died while receiving treatment. Investigation into the incident has commenced in earnest, and the suspect will be prosecuted accordingly.

In a similar incident, on 5th April 2026 at about 1300hrs, officers attached to ‘C’ Division Damaturu responded to a distress call involving a violent fight between Al’amin Abdullahi Musa, 20 years, of Abari, and Ibrahim Abdullahi, 21 years, also of Abari. The dispute reportedly started over a borrowed T-shirt, which escalated into a physical fight. During the altercation, punches were exchanged, causing one of the parties to fall unconscious.

Police operatives immediately rushed the victim to the Specialist Hospital Damaturu, where he was unfortunately confirmed dead by medical personnel. Abdullahi Musa has been arrested, and investigation is ongoing.

The Command urges parents, community leaders, and civil society organizations to support security agencies in addressing the menace of drug and substance abuse among youths, which is increasingly contributing to violent crimes and preventable loss of lives.

The Command reiterates its commitment to the fight against crime and criminality across Yobe State, noting that the continued reduction in crime rate in the State is a testament to the sustained cooperation and support of community members.

Members of the public are encouraged to remain law-abiding, resolve disputes peacefully, and promptly report suspicious activities to the Police.
