Fintiri pledges support for Northern Governors’ Wives Forum

Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri of Adamawa has pledged continued support for the Northern Governors’ Wives Forum to promote development at the grassroots.

Fintiri made the pledge on Wednesday in Yola when he received members of the forum on a courtesy visit led by its Chairperson, Hajiya Asma’u Yahaya.

Yahaya, wife of the Gombe Governor, said the visit was part of activities marking the forum’s second Tri-Annual meeting hosted by Adamawa.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the meeting attracted members from the 19 northern states to deliberate on issues affecting the region.

Fintiri commended the forum for its humanitarian and development interventions, saying its initiatives had reached vulnerable people and communities beyond the immediate reach of government.

He said making Nigeria a model for other countries required the collective commitment of all stakeholders and assured the forum of his administration’s readiness to collaborate.

The governor also acknowledged the role of governors’ wives in supporting their husbands and advising on issues affecting women, children and vulnerable groups.

“I urge you all to use your forum’s deliberations to address challenges confronting women and children in Northern Nigeria, particularly poverty and its effects on livelihoods.

“Tackling such challenges would improve livelihoods and contribute to the overall development of the country,” he said.

Earlier, Yahaya said the delegation visited Adamawa to express solidarity with the Fintiri administration and demonstrate support for the governor’s leadership.

She said the forum, comprising mothers and development partners, had implemented interventions across northern states to improve the lives of vulnerable communities.

According to her, the interventions included provision of boreholes, support for women-owned businesses and distribution of relief materials to vulnerable communities.

Yahaya commended Fintiri for his contributions to Adamawa’s development and appreciated First Lady Lami Fintiri for her initiatives supporting women and children.

“I particularly commend the First Lady for renovating the labour and neonatal complex at the Specialist Hospital, Yola,” she said.

She disclosed that, as part of activities marking the International Day of Charity, the forum presented a “mother’s token” to women in Adamawa.
