NPA lays foundation of six-storey office complex in Ibadan

The Nigerian Publishers Association (NPA) lays the foundation of its six-storey ultra-modern office complex in Ibadan on Tuesday.

Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the association’s President, Alhaji Lukman Dauda, said the project reflected publishers’ determination to build a lasting legacy for future generations.

Dauda noted that the publishing industry had continued to face economic challenges, including high operational costs and fluctuating prices of production materials.

He, however, expressed confidence that the association would complete the project through collective commitment and support from members and partners.

“This occasion is more than the beginning of a building project; it is the beginning of a new chapter of growth, unity, progress and greater service to our members and the book ecosystem,” he said.

According to him, the association launched a N1 billion fundraising campaign during its annual conference in December 2025 to support the project.

He said that the planned complex would provide a conducive environment for administration, meetings, innovation and collaboration within the publishing ecosystem.

The publishers’ president said the association secured the land for the project about eight years ago, adding that efforts had since been ongoing to mobilise resources for the development.

“Certainly, some people will be looking for what we want to do before they can come in, and that is why we decided to start with what we have,” he said.

He said the investment would strengthen the association institutionally and improve the industry’s productivity.

“When you have a very inviting accommodation, it affects productivity.

“When you have a business outfit operating from a one-room apartment compared to one operating from a well-furnished office complex, the productivity level will definitely not be the same,” he said.

Dr Michael Akinola, the event’s Special Guest and Chairman/Chief Executive Officer of Marvelous Mike Press Ltd., called for unity among publishers to ensure the project’s success.

Akinola described the initiative as an investment that future generations in the industry would be proud of.

The Executive Director (Publishing), University Press Plc., Mrs Folakemi Bademosi, urged members of the association to support the project financially.

Bademosi said the project should not become one of the many abandoned projects across the country.

“As we are starting it today, we know we are going to bring it to a meaningful conclusion,” she said.

Meanwhile, the Project Manager, Bode Jegede, an architect, said the proposed building was designed as a sustainable and low-energy facility.

Jegede said the structure would include lettable office spaces, a restaurant and a courtyard to enhance natural lighting and ventilation.

According to him, the self-sustaining design aims at reducing operational costs after construction.
