COAS Celebrates Sallah With Troops In Sokoto, Says Army Committed To Nations’ Security

The Chief of Army Staff (COAS) Lt. General Waidi Shaibu has commended the Nigerian Army for their unrelenting steadfastness to the nations security saying their sacrifices are highly appreciated. 

Addressing troops of 8 Division and Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA at the Forward Operating Base (FOB) Tureta, Sokoto State during a luncheon to celebrate the 2026 Eid-el-Kabir
the COAS maintained that his presence is to amongst other things boost the morales of troops deployed to frontlines and also remind those wounded in action that they are always in their minds. 

The COAS Lt.General Waidi Shuaibu who was represented by  the Commander Infantry Corps, Major General Godwin Mutkut, said troops  resilience and achievements this far in tackling insecurity across troubled areas of the nation is clearly manifest their dedication to protecting Nigerians territorial integrity.

While appreciating President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for his continued support for the Nigeria Army, the COAS pledged their resolve to remain committed in not only defending Nigeria’s territorial integrity but also ensure security and safety for every human endeavours to thrive in peace.

Speaking earlier in his welcome remarks,  
the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 8 Division and Commander Sector 2 Operation FANSAN YAMMA, Major General Bemgba Paul Koughna, reminded troops of the of hour important their unity has been yeilding unprecedented results against enemies of the marina and humanity. 

“The presence of the COAS, ably represented today by the Commander Infantry Corps, Maj Gen GM Mutkut, is a powerful testament to his unwavering resolve towards addressing the welfare of troops, no matter where they are deployed”.

Stressing how important the event is to the Nigeria Army, the GOC said it aptly represents the Command Philosophy  of the COAS which, “Is to Transform the Nigerian Army into a Professional, Adaptable, Combat Ready and Resilient Force Capable of Decisively Discharging its Constitutional  Responsibilities within a Joint and Multi-Agency Environment.

“Central to this vision is the “‘Soldier First” concept, which emphasize of boosting soldiers’ morale and ensuring robust administration for enhanced operational effectiveness”.

The GOC therefore submitted that the luncheon is a deliberate leadership gesture to recognize gallantry, reinforce cohesion and consolidate on the  operational gains of so far recorded by troops in all dimensions. 

“By bringing this feast to the frontline here in Sokoto State, the COAS is affirming that your toils are seen, your sacrifices are valued, and your welfare is our highest priority”.

Giving vote of thanks, the Commander 8 Division Garrison, Brig General, Abdulmalik Mohammed thanked  the COAS for his commitment to troops welfare and unity.
