Kaduna: COAS inaugurate RSM accommodation , reaffirms commitment to troops’ welfare

The Nigerian Army COAS inaugurate a newly constructed Regimental Sergeant Major (RSM) accommodation at the 51 Signals Brigade, Ribadu Cantonment, Kaduna, to boost personnel welfare.

The accommodation was inaugurated on Monday on behalf of the Chief of Army Staff (COAS), Lt.-Gen. Waidi Shaibu, by the General Officer Commanding (GOC) 1 Division and Commander, Sector 1 Joint Task Force Operation Fansan Yamma  , Maj.-Gen. Abubakar  Wase.

Represented by the Chief of Staff, 1 Division Nigerian Army, Brig.-Gen. Timothy Opurum, the GOC said the project was executed under the Nigerian Army Special Projects Programme.

He said the initiative reflected the COAS’ commitment to improving infrastructure to enhance the welfare, morale and operational effectiveness of personnel.

Opurum said personnel welfare remained a top priority of the COAS, adding that providing standard accommodation for RSMs would create a conducive living and working environment

According to him, the project will motivate personnel to maintain the highest standards of discipline, dedication and professionalism in the discharge of their constitutional responsibilities.

He urged the beneficiary to take ownership of the facility and ensure proper maintenance, stressing that preserving military infrastructure was a collective responsibility.

The GOC’s representative also commended the COAS for establishing the Special Projects Programme, describing it as a transformative initiative that continued to improve infrastructure across Nigerian Army formations.

Earlier, the Commander, 51 Signals Brigade, Brig.-Gen. O.O. Okungbure, expressed appreciation to the COAS for approving the project and thanked the GOC for his leadership and support.

Okungbure assured the Army high command that the accommodation would be properly utilised and maintained for the benefit of present and future occupants.

The ceremony featured the official ribbon-cutting, inspection of the facility and a group photograph, with senior military officers, RSMs, soldiers and other invited guests in attendance.
