ADC governorship candidate pledges agricultural reform, improved security in Adamawa

The African Democratic Congress (ADC) governorship candidate in Adamawa, Mr Omar Suleiman, has pledged to transform agriculture, improve security and develop rural infrastructure if elected in 2027.

Suleiman, a former Nigerian ambassador to the Democratic Republic of the Congo, made the pledge at a news conference on Saturday in Yola.

The candidate, popularly known as Omarana, described Adamawa as an agrarian state with immense potential for economic growth and food security.

He said his administration would partner agricultural experts to train farmers in modern farming techniques and ensure the timely distribution of subsidised fertilisers.

According to him, rural road development will also be prioritised to facilitate the transportation of farm produce from farming communities to markets.

Suleiman said security remained essential for sustainable development and pledged to collaborate with federal security agencies to protect lives, property and farming communities.

“We will commit whatever it takes operationally to ensure citizens can sleep peacefully and safely in their homes.

“We will restore public safety, create an enabling environment for development and economic activities across the state,” he said.

The ADC candidate also pledged to invest in sports development to create jobs, empower youths and address social challenges, including drug abuse.

On the party’s leadership, he dismissed claims that the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had not recognised the ADC leadership.

He maintained that INEC recognised the party’s national leadership under Sen. David Mark and urged supporters to disregard contrary reports.

Suleiman said the ADC remained united and committed to providing purposeful leadership for the people of Adamawa.

He reaffirmed the party’s readiness for the 2027 governorship election and called on residents to support its vision of inclusive governance.
