Adamawa NUJ correspondents’ chapel inaugurates new executives

The Correspondents’ Chapel of the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Adamawa Chapter, has inaugurated new executive members following a successful election.

Mr Ibrahim Kado of the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) was elected Chairman, with Anselm Nuhu Kyauta of AIT as Secretary and Ibrahim Abubakar of Plus TV as Treasurer.

Other elected officials include Golfa Francis of Voice of Nigeria (VON) as Vice Chairman and Onimisi Alao of The Nation as Assistant Secretary.

Talatu Maiwada of NAN was elected Financial Secretary, while Joseph Adahnu of New Telegraph was appointed Auditor.

Speaking at the inauguration, NUJ State Chairman Ishaka Dedan praised the electoral process, which was overseen by the Correspondents’ Chapel Caretaker Committee.

Dedan stated that the new executive members emerged after a thorough screening by the electoral committee.

He assured them of his support and commended the smooth conduct of the election.

He noted that some candidates were disqualified due to dual membership in different unions, while others were ineligible as state government employees.

In his acceptance speech, the new Chairman, Ibrahim Kado, pledged to run an open-door policy in line with the NUJ Constitution.

“I want to assure you that we will run an open-door policy where everyone will be carried along, because together we can achieve the desired goals.

“As the chairman of this great chapel, my first priority is to improve the welfare of members because the essence of the union is the welfare of its members,” he said.

Mr Shareef Alhassan, Senior Special Assistant to Gov. Ahmadu Fintiri on Broadcast Media, who supervised the election, urged the new executives to prioritise members’ welfare and prepare for the tasks ahead.

Alhassan also advised them to be prudent in managing the chapel’s finances and to encourage productivity among journalists.

He assured that the election results would be conveyed to Governor Ahmadu Fintiri, recognising the media’s role in promoting government policies and programmes.

The inauguration was attended by State NUJ executives, representatives from the state government, and members from the eight chapels across the state. NAN
