Algeria, Britain discuss developments in Gaza

88

Algerian Foreign Minister Ahmed Attaf discussed Monday with his British counterpart David Cameron the developments in the Gaza Strip, Xinhua reports.

Attaf received a phone call from Cameron, in which the two diplomats held discussions on bilateral relations and international issues of common interest, particularly the humanitarian situation in Gaza, the Algerian Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

According to the statement, the phone talk touched upon the coordination between the two countries’ missions to the United Nations (UN) on the situation in Palestine.

The two sides agreed to continue efforts to achieve an immediate ceasefire in Gaza, address the humanitarian crisis in the enclave, and ensure aid delivery to its population.

Attaf invited Cameron to pay an official visit to Algeria “to deepen consultations and expand the areas of cooperation and partnership between the two countries,” the statement added.

Since the beginning of its non-permanent membership in the UN Security Council in January, Algeria has been working to pass a draft resolution toward a ceasefire in Gaza.
