APC felicitates Muslims, Christians on Ramadan, Lent

The All Progressives Congress (APC) on Thursday extended greetings to Muslim and Christian faithful as the 2025 Ramadan and Lent run concurrently.

APC Chairman, Pastor Cornelius Ojelabi, in a statement in Lagos on Thursday urged both communities to use the period for reflection on their relationship with God and humanity.

Ojelabi wished Muslims and Christians a successful Ramadan and Lenten season, emphasising that these observances offer opportunities for spiritual renewal, forgiveness, and a deeper connection with God.

“For Muslims, Ramadan is a time for sober reflection, self-realisation, and spiritual rejuvenation, with the goal of attaining ‘Taqwa’ or God-consciousness,” he stated.

He described Ramadan as a sacred period of fasting, reflection, and spiritual growth, providing Muslims with an opportunity to strengthen their bond with Allah.

“This blessed month allows Muslims to rejuvenate their faith, cultivate empathy, and develop compassion for humanity,” Ojelabi added.

He encouraged Muslims to use the holy month to build self-control, resilience, and understanding of the struggles of the less fortunate.

He urged Muslims to increase acts of kindness while striving for peace, forgiveness, and reconciliation to promote a more harmonious society.

Ojelabi also called on Muslims to be charitable by supporting those in need and fostering a sense of community and social responsibility.

He noted that Prophet Muhammad (SAW) emphasised the importance of Ramadan in promoting compassion and touching lives.

“His example should inspire Muslims to follow in his footsteps, spreading love, kindness, and generosity throughout the year,” he said.

In his message to Christians, Ojelabi highlighted that the 40-day Lenten season mirrors Jesus’ fast in the wilderness.

According to him, Lent is a time for intentional prayer, fasting, almsgiving, and repentance, leading to forgiveness and spiritual renewal.

He urged Christians to use this period to draw closer to God with self-denial, humility, and self-discipline.

Ojelabi expressed hope that these fasting periods would foster spiritual growth and a deeper connection with God for both Muslims and Christians.
