Bagudu inaugurates steering, technical committees on World Bank agro- climatic resilience project
The Kebbi State Governor, Alhaji Atiku Bagudu, has inaugurated Steering and Technical Committees on Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi Arid Landscapes Project (ACReSAL) to ensure the successful implementation of the World Bank six-year strategic project in the state.
While inaugurating the committees in Birnin Kebbi on Wednesday, Bagudu, tasked the committees members to work on the designed committees terms of references for the success of the project in the state.
Bagudu, represented by Secretary to the State Government (SSG), Alhaji Babale Umar-Yauri, assured the committees of the state government total support towards the success of the project in the state.
The state Commissioner of Environment and Solid Minerals, Alhaji Hayatu Bawa, was appointed as the Chairman of the steering committee while his Permanent Secretary, Hajiya Fatima Mungadi, was appointed as the Chairperson of technical committee of the project.

Earlier, Bawa, said ACReSAL is a world bank six -year strategic project prioritizing actions within four components.

“These components include, dry land management, community climate resilience, institutional strengthening and project management, as well as contingent emergency response,” he said.
Bawa recalled that the world Bank had approved $700 million US dollars credit from the International Development Association (IDA) for the Nigeria Agro-Climatic Resilience in Semi-Arid Landscapes (ACReSAL) Project.
“The project will increase the implementation of sustainable landscape management practices in 19 Northern states and FCT to strengthen the country’s long-term enabling environment for integrated climate -resilient landscape management,” he said.
Bawa explained that the steering committee was set to ensure overall state level project implementation oversight and facilitation.
“While the technical committee is mandated to ensure the coordination of project implementation and facilitation across the participating ministries.
“The members of the steering committee include, Commissioners from ministries for Budget and Economic Development, Dr Abba Kalgo; Finance, Alhaji Ibrahim Augie; Agriculture, Alhaji Maigari Dakingari; Water Resources, Alhaji Nuraddeen Kangiwa and Hajiya Fatima Mungadi, Permanent Secretary state Ministry of Environment and Solid Minerals as Secretary of the committee.
“Similarly, the members of technical committee include, permanent secretaries from state ministries of water resources, agriculture, and directors from state ministries of water resources, environment, agriculture and forestry as well as representatives of the relevant agencies, members and state project coordinator as Secretary,” the commissioner said.
