Commission Trains 42 LGAs’ Health, Social Workers On Danger Of Drug Abuse In Kebbi
The Kebbi State Local Government Service Commission (KSLGSC) in collaboration with Behavioural Health Foundation of Nigeria (BHFN), an NGO, on Thursday, trained 42 local governments’ health and social workers on danger of drug abuse and addiction in the state.
The Acting Permanent Secretary of the KSLGSC, Hajiya Safiya Umar- Gwandu, said a the training of the workers in Kalgo that two trainees were drawn from each o f the 21 LGA of the state.
She said,” The aim of the training was to train the local government health and social personnel for onward cascading same to the grassroots on the danger of drug abuse and addiction in the society.

“It was observed that the menace of drug abuse was one of the contributory factors of criminalities in the society, hence the efforts to enlighten the general public, especially local government workers on the effect of the drug abuse in the areas.”
Umar-Gwandu urged the well-to-do individuals and relevant stakeholders to collaborate with the NGO and the commission to rid the state out of the menace of drug abuse.
The secretary also commended Gov. Atiku Bagudu for his enormous support to the commission in order to achieve its mandate of providing quality service to the state.
Earlier, the Chairman of the state local government service commission, Alhaji Abubakar Nayaya, said the state government was always passionate about the healthcare need of the people, adding that it was determined to do everything possible to bring improved healthcare to the doorstep of the common man.
“It is in this respect that, the commission in conjunction with the foundation find it very important to organise the training, especially now that the whole world is facing issues of insecurity, and drug abuse is one the major contributory factors of such menace.
“There is no part of this country that is free from the curse of misguided drug use and addiction.
“And the pandemic has assumed an alarming dimension and causing enormous problems to the individual and society.
” The number of drug addicts is increasing day-by-day and millions of the people are living in risky and miserable lives,” he said.
Nayaya expressed optimism that the training would provide the participants with practical insight on the danger of drug abuse and addiction in the society.
“You are, therefore, expected to reciprocate this gesture through full participation throughout the trading and to implement all the knowledge and skills acquired when you go back to your respective LGAs,” he said.
The chairman commended the organisers of the training and resource persons for their enormous contribution to the actualisation of the trading.
In his remarks, the Consultant on Psychiatric from BHFN, Dr Bioku Ayodeji, opined that the studies had shown that the drug abuse and addiction had been interwoven with mental disorder, saying it left unchecked it would lead to mental disorder cases.
