By Hannatu Lot

The Executive Secretary of the Tertiary Education Trust Fund (TETFUND), Arc. Sonny Echono, alongside a high-level management team, paid a courtesy visit to the Government House in Yola today, commending Governor Ahmadu Umaru Fintiri for his unwavering dedication to advancing education in Adamawa State and exploring avenues for strengthened collaboration.

During the impactful engagement, Arc. Sonny Echono expressed TETFUND’s profound appreciation for Governor Fintiri’s proactive stance and robust support for educational initiatives, describing it as creating a “fertile ground for progress.”

He emphasized that such engagements with state governments and stakeholders are crucial for assessing the effectiveness of TETFUND’s interventions, identifying areas for improvement, and ultimately enhancing the speed and quality of access to educational resources nationwide.

The feedback garnered from these interactions, he noted, serves as an “invaluable cornerstone” in informing national education policy.

“We are immensely grateful for your government’s unwavering commitment to the advancement of education in Adamawa State,” stated Arc. Echono. “Your proactive stance and support for educational initiatives are truly commendable.”

Governor Fintiri, in his response, reiterated his administration’s steadfast commitment to making education a cornerstone of development in Adamawa State.

He expressed his gratitude for TETFUND’s continued support and pledged his government’s full cooperation in identifying and implementing projects that will enhance the quality of education and opportunities for its citizens.

In a move to further bolster educational infrastructure and capacity within the state, he outlined several key areas for consideration and potential collaboration.

These included a commitment to “continue and expand” interventions, with a particular focus on initiatives that directly benefit students and institutions.

Fintiri also brought to light specific infrastructural needs within the state’s educational institutions. He cited an example of a crucial need for fencing at an institution located approximately 40 kilometers from a central point, emphasizing its importance for security and the overall well-being of the learning environment. Such projects, alongside others, were identified as vital for enhancing the educational landscape.

Furthermore, he acknowledged the growing student population, noting an institution with approximately 18,000 students. This increasing enrollment, will inevitably lead to a greater demand for expanded infrastructure, particularly in technical and vocational education.

The courtesy visit concluded with expressions of profound gratitude from both sides for the fruitful dialogue and a shared eagerness to continue collaborative efforts towards achieving educational excellence in Adamawa State.
