Education: Zakkat foundation offers scholarship to 22 orphans in Zamfara

A Lagos-based Non-Governmental Organization, “Zakat and Sadaqat Foundation”, on Monday offered scholarship to 22 orphans and less-privileged children in Zamfara state.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the beneficiaries were selected by the foundation from various schools across the state, to be sponsored for gain Western and Qur’anic education.

The Executive Director of the Foundation, Mr Sulaiman Olagunju, while presenting school fees in cash to the beneficiaries in Gusau, said the gesture is to encourage Muslims student to obtain quality education.

Olagunju, represented by the Chief Accountant of the Foundation, Dr Yusuf Adelakun, said the gesture was to also ensure that vulnerable children acquired both western and Islamic knowledge for a better society in future.

“This is one of the major projects of this foundation to ensure orphans and other less-privileged children have access to basic education.

“This foundation was established over 20 years ago in Lagos from Zakkat and Endowments from wealthy Muslims, and was registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (RC 21237) in 2002,” he said.

“Our primary objective is to deliver quality Zakat assessment, collection and distribution services to both private and public individuals as well as corporate organizations.

“We also provide relief to emergencies, prisons, welfare homes, orphanages and widows among others,” he noted

“We are seriously concerned about the education of Muslim students, particularly orphans and the less-privileged children.

“Under this scholarship scheme, we pay for student’s school fees, we also give grants for research,” Olagunju explained.

The Executive Director called on the beneficiaries to concentrate on their studies at various levels for them to become good ambassadors in the society.

He called on well-to-do individuals in the country to always assist the less privileged for peace and stability to be maintained in the society.
