EFCC Busts “Yahoo Academy” in Makurdi, Arrests 14 Suspected Internet Fraudsters

In a major crackdown on cybercrime, the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has made a significant breakthrough in the fight against internet fraud. On Wednesday, February 14, 2024, the Makurdi Zonal Command of the EFCC successfully apprehended 14 individuals suspected of engaging in fraudulent online activities at a training center for potential internet fraudsters in Makurdi, Benue State.

Acting on carefully gathered intelligence, EFCC operatives stormed a three-bedroom apartment believed to be serving as a training hub for individuals learning the illicit trade of internet fraud along Achusa Road, Makurdi. The suspects were taken into custody without incident.

The arrested individuals have been identified as: Asongu Terungwa, Aese Sonter, Nyoosu Terungwa, John Kator, Udi Micheal Aodona, Terungu Mnyam, Iorwuese Terhide, Ule Francis, Imoter Gloor Emmanuel, and Samuel Lubem. Additionally, Wergba Tertamge, Erukaa Ephraim, Agenale Franklin, and Abechi Toryila were also among those apprehended.

Following the operation, law enforcement officials recovered a significant amount of incriminating evidence, including laptops, ATM cards, mobile phones, a Firman Generator, and a Toyota Corolla car.

The EFCC has announced that the suspects will be subjected to a thorough investigation, after which they will be charged in court. This development underscores the agency’s commitment to combating cybercrime and ensuring that perpetrators are brought to justice.
