Ekiti: Use your PVC to vote out bad leaders, Oni urges supporters

Chief Segun Oni, the candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the June 18 governorship election in Ekiti State, has called on party supporters to get their Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) ready for the election.

Oni, who was governor from 2007 to 2010 in the state, lost the Jan. 26 Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) governorship primary to a former chairman of the party, Chief Bisi Kolawole.

The former governor, who made the call while addressing party faithful on Tuesday in Ado-Ekiti, said it was only by obtaining their PVCs that they could vote out bad leaders.

“Our election is coming up on June 18, you are all aware of this, my advice to all of you is to go and get your PVCs and send this government packing.

“You won’t miss both PDP and APC in Ekiti if you vote for me.

“Please tell them that progress has come and that is Segun Oni. By the grace of God, I will not disappoint you.

“Your voter’s card is your power, don’t allow these people to continue to dominate the system and cheat you.

“Vote for progress, vote SDP. Go and mobilise for SDP, it is the party of progress. Ekiti people don’t deserve suffering, sweep them away with your votes on June 18,” he said.

Oni predicated the supports he has been savouring among Ekiti residents on his goodwill and impressive performance, and the high premium on prompt payment of salary and pension while he was a governor.

He promised to prioritise the security of the people, employment generation, agriculture, good governance, affordable health services and massive road construction.

“I have served you before, you know that I represent transparency and development and these I will give if you vote for me as the next governor Ekiti State come June 18.

“I can’t deceive you, it is the same Segun Oni of 2007, I shall keep all my promises with you.

“I believe in the people and the power shall be in your hands this time, like I did during my first term,” he said.

The News Agency of Nigeria reports that the event was witnessed by large turnout of party supporters and admirers, leading to traffic gridlock on Ado-Ikere road for several hours.

He was accompanied by his running mate and an indigene of Ado-Ekiti, Mr Ladi Owolabi.
