Ex-lawmaker marks 10th Children’s Day party in Lagos
Lagos State ex-lawmaker, Dipo Olorunrinu, marks the 10th anniversary of his annual Children’s Day event on Wednesday, drawing hundreds of children and parents to the Federal Housing Authority (FHA) field in Festac Town.
Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that the event featured entertainment, including music, dance competitions, sports activities, gifts and refreshments.
Olorunrinu, a former member of the Lagos State House of Assembly representing Amuwo Odofin Constituency I, said the gathering was designed to celebrate children while giving families a safe recreational space within the community.
During the event, Olorunrinu addressed the children and parents, urging discipline and orderly conduct.
He stressed the need for respect and order at public gatherings, urging the children repeatedly to behave responsibly and follow instructions.
Children from different parts of the community participated in dancing, games and other activities as music blared across the field.
While some parents joined the dance competitions, others watched from the sidelines.
Also, some attendees said the annual celebration had become one of the few community-centred events dedicated entirely to children in the area.
Esther Oluwaseyi, a resident who attended the event for the first time with her nephew, told NAN that she was impressed by the scale of the programme and the organiser’s commitment to children.

“I love what the honourable is doing; when as a father, you love children, you bring them together, not just your children, you show love to other children, the less privileged and all that.
“It shows how much you care about them,” she said.
Oluwaseyi said she was surprised the programme had continued for a decade, adding that such consistency reflected genuine concern for the community.
Another parent, Chinenye Samuel, who attended with her children and a neighbour’s child, described the event as impactful for families in the area.
“They danced, they were bouncing castles, they were catching their fun, they were so happy.
“Even when the honourable was coming, the way they went to embrace him, I’m so impressed,” she told NAN.
She also raised concerns about the shrinking number of playgrounds and recreational spaces for children in urban communities.
“There aren’t many open fields left for kids to play in. Most of those spaces are being developed.
“I think this type of place is okay. They should leave it for children,” she said.
