Fasting, divine commandment with health, spiritual benefits – Expert

Alhaja Romoke Ayinde, Chief Executive Officer, Kayrom Lee Gym and Fitness Centre, has described fasting as a divine commandment with health and spiritual benefits.

Ayinde made the assertion during the fifth Ramadan lecture of the Sports Writers Association of Nigeria (SWAN), Oyo State Chapter, held at the NUJ Press Centre on Wednesday in Ibadan.

The Voice Media Trust (VMT NEWS) reports that Ayinde is a fitness expert, entrepreneur, UN Peace Ambassador and Iyalaje Adini of Oyo State.

The fitness expert in her lecture entitled “The Place of Fasting in the Life of a Sportsperson” said fasting offered both health and spiritual benefits to individuals if the rules were adhered to.

She said that spiritually, fasting would guarantee goodness of soul, new desire for God, deeper prayer, sensitivity to God’s voice and discovery of new satisfaction.

Ayinde listed some of the health benefits to include weight loss, improved blood sugar level control and decreased inflammation.

“May I let you know that it might also offer protection against certain conditions like cancer and neurogenerative disorders,” she said.

Ayinde said that there was also reward for a sportsperson who yielded to or obeyed Allah’s commandment that compulsorily a true muslim must fast, especially during Ramadan.

“I believe there cannot be any doubt about the already available place in the life of a sportsperson to do the will and the bid of Almighty Allah (SWT).

“A sportsperson is a creation of Allah who has been designed to yield to Allah’s command so as to enjoy here on earth and the hereafter.

“Fasting is a divine commandment and must be obeyed since we did not create ourselves but created by the all-knowing Allah,” she said.

Ayinde called on all to use Ramadan to seek the face of Almighty Allah and in total repentance from sinful acts or bad habits.

Alhaji Kehinde Olaosebikan, a former Chief Press Secretary to late former Gov. Lam Adesina, urged members to take spiritual rebirth seriously with total repentance from their sinful ways.

Olaosebikan described the lecture as very educative, saying it had exposed the spiritual and health benefits of obeying God’s commandment as a sportsperson.
