FG engages stakeholders on animal feed, fodder policy review in Bauchi.

The Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development (FMARD) has engaged Bauchi stakeholders on development of a comprehensive feed and fodder sector database to mitigate high cost of feed in the country.

Dr Sabi Abdulahi, Minister of State, Federal Ministry of Agriculture and Food Security (FMAFS) urged the stakeholders to remain resolute and explore their wealth of experience while reviewing the policy document.

He made the call at the state level review of the draft National Anima Feed and Fodder policy document on Thursday in Bauchi.

The Minister, represented by Mr Daniel Abarshi ,State Coordinator FMAFS said the state level review of the draft Animal feed and fodder policy document became necessary .

“It is my hope that this gathering would discuss other critical issues that would add value and enrich the document and make its implementation seamless.

Abdulahi explained that FMAFS through
Department of Animal Husbandry Services successfully conducted first and second National Animal feed summit in 2021, 2023 with stakeholders.on feed and fodder.

“These review sessions attracted key stakeholders in the livestock industry particularly the feed and fodder sub sector.

“During these engagements, critical issues were raised on the need to strategically develop a comprehensive feed and fodder sector database , harness crop residues to boost feed security and safeguard the environment.

“As well, prioritising efforts and investment in harnessing alternative feed resources, strengthens coordination of regulations and standards among others to mitigate the challenges of high cost feed in the country.,” He said.

Earlier, Mrs Winnie Lai-Solarin, Director
Animal husbandry services FMAFS said the objective of the stakeholders review at the state level was to share knowledge.

“As well to ensure that the state is recognised in the review process to harness and boost the animal feed and fodder policy for the country.

“To also ensure that stakeholders voice are heard in the policy formulation and implementation,” she said

Lai-Solarin however urged the participants to use the state level review meeting to develop a well-reviewed animal feed policy tailored towards sustainable animal feed security in the country.
