Fire claims 28 lives, injures 46 in Adamawa

At least 28 persons lost their lives in Adamawa, while 46 suffered different degrees of injuries in the 63 fires in two years, an official of the Federal Fire Service has said.

An Assistant Controller of Fire of the organisation, Adamawa Command, Mr Yakubu Watiwari, disclosed this in an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Yola on Wednesday.

Watiwari also disclosed that about 568 persons were rescued in the incidents during the same period.

He confirmed that property worth N2 billion was destroyed, while valuables estimated at over N1 billion were saved.

“The Federal Fire Service, Adamawa Command, under Zone Q, has received and responded to 63 fire incident distress calls across the state from 2024 to date,” he said.

Watiwari said that Yola North and Yola South recorded more fires, totalling 37 cases.

He said that the command was committed to its mandate of safeguarding lives and property through rescue services and public enlightenment.

He, however, appealed to the State Government to support the command with equipment and logistics for rapid and effective rescue responses for the protection of lives and property across the state. (NAN)
