Foundation to donate bio-digester to Ibadan community

Residents of the New Felele community in Ibadan are set to benefit from a climate-friendly waste management project by the People, Planet and Peace Foundation, as the Foundation to donate bio-digester to promote sustainable sanitation in the area.

The Non-Governmental Organisation announced on Tuesday in Ibadan that it will donate a bio-digester to the community as part of efforts to improve environmental health and promote sustainable waste management.

Miss Olabisi Kumuyi, the Secretary, Climate Beyond Borders Caravan (CBBC), an initiative of the foundation, made the vow in her speech during a meeting with the community members after the team carried out cleanup activities in the community .

She said the poject, expected to commence between October and December, aims to convert food waste from the community market into bio-gas while promoting environmental sustainability, cleaner surroundings, and improved public health.

‘’We are looking forward to having a project on donation of a bio-digester and the biodigester focuses mainly on food waste with sensitisation of the community.

‘’We propose the project implementation between October and December.

“We are going to have a meeting involving the community and the Local Government office to discuss how the initiative can be effectively established and implemented.

‘’We also appeal to the Chairman to support community sensitisation efforts as sustainability remains the most important aspect of the project,’’ she said.

Kumuyi affirmed that the new Felele project would be a pilot scheme as the foundation would carry out similar activities in the rest communities within the Oluyole Local Government Area toward addressing climate change.

Mr Akeem Olatunji, the Chairman, Oluyole Local Government, commended the caravan team for educating members of the community on good waste management and environmental pollution.

Olatunji further thanked the team for educating his people on preventing floods, promoting good health, protecting property and for encouraging them on building a beautiful community.

“This is for my main jurisdiction. We are glad to welcome you and your team.

“It is all about making life easy for our people and also to improve the lives of our people,”  he said.
