Gen. Tarfa, Okowa bag honorary doctorate degrees as Taraba Vasity graduates 8,525

The Taraba State  University Jalingo has awarded the Board Chairman for North East Development Commission (NEDC) General Paul Tarfa and Delta state Governor Ifeanyi Okowa of with honorary Doctorate Degrees as it graduates 8,525 students at her combined 6th, 7th, 8th and 9th convocation ceremony in Jalingo.


 Vice Chancellor of the university Professor Vincent Ado Tenebe who said that the awardees were carefully chosen based on their track record noted that the university was in need of funds to address more challenges, despite the tremendous achievements under his tenure.

He said that the support by the state had lead to the recent ranking of the university from number 170 to 17 making it one of best twenty universities in the country.

Tenebe said that the university which had 1221 staff in 2017 has 2241 staff at present, adding that the university which had two professors in 2017 has 79 professors at present.

Gov Okowa who spoke on behalf of the awardees commended the University for maintaining strong academic standard and described the university as one of the fastest growing universities in Nigeria.

He pledge to support the university to grow to an enviable height and thanked Gov. Darius Ishaku of Taraba for achieving such a milestone by dusting such a university in the time of unavailability of resources.

While interacting with pressmen, Tarfa said that he was honored by the award which would spur him to do even more for the growth of the region. 

Our correspondent reports that former Chief Justice of the federation Justice Mahamud Mohammed and Alhaji Usman Najeem, Vice Chairman of the NLC also bagged the awards of doctorate degrees.
